7 Ways to Get Kids to Eat Healthy Food

Creating the environment where your kids are closing healthy and nutritional choices is one of the most important steps parents can take to ensure the health of your child.

By cultivating the supportive environment, you and your whole family can thrive and able to create a positive relationship with food.

Here is how you can get your child eat healthy food and form wise nutritional habits.

Avoid Placing Restrictions (pressure) on Food

 Restricting food increases the risk of your child may develop eating disorders later in life. It can also have negative impact on the growth and development of the child. Instead of banning food, talk about all the healthy and nutritional options, encourage your family to choose to choose fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats and low fat dairy, while avoiding heavily processed, low quality junk foods.

Keep Healthy Food handy

Children will eat what’s available. Keep your fruits on the dining table not in the crispier section of your fridge. Remember your child can choose only healthy, when its exposed to him. And have an apple for your own snack. ”Your actions scream louder than anything you will ever tell them”.

Don’t Label Food as Good or Bad

Instead, try to tie food to the things which your child cares about, such as sports or performing well in school. Let your child know that lean protein such as eggs and calcium in dairy products give them strength for playing well. The antioxidants in fruits and vegetables add luster to skin and hair. And eating a healthy breakfast can help them keep focus in class.

Praise Healthy Choices of your Child

Give your children a proud smile & praise when they choose healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, or low fat dairy.

Don’t Nag about Unhealthy Choices

When children choose fatty, unhealthy foods, redirect them by suggesting a healthier option.  Instead of regular potato chips and dip offer baked tortilla chips. If your child wants candies, try giving fresh strawberries in a little chocolate sauce. If you are too busy, keep naturally sweet fried fruits at home for quick snacks.

 Sit Down To Family Dinners

If this isn’t a tradition at your home, make it one. Research shows that children who eat dinner table with their parents have better nutrition and are less likely to get in serious growth trouble in teenage. Start with one night a week, and then work up to three to four weeks, to build up a habit.

Never use Food as a Reward

This could lead to weight gain challenges later in life. Instead reward your child with something physical & fun, perhaps a trip to park, or a quick game.
